So far, nothing has come out of Baselworld 2015, other than Tag Heuer making a few big splashes. Not all for the correct reasons in my opinion, as their special editions seem to get weirder, and more out of their home in Motorsport. Their big news, teaming up with intel and Google for a smart watch, is probably their most daring move. Can swiss luxury conquer the Apple watch? Probably not, but it will be an interesting artifact of this time in a couple years.
Omega unveiling an all white speedy is probably the gaudiest non hublot or RM I've seen so far. Tudor making their own in-house movement is very interesting, and probably signals the coming end of them using ETA movements. Anything catch your eye about the show so far?

I'm eager to see what TAG's smartwatch will look like. I'd still rather have a real watch, but I just wonder if they can apply the swiss watchmaker feel and trademark to a smartwatch.

And do it better than apple when it comes to tech. That's what the hurdle is

Exactly. And I still don't see how they can bring their expertise in watchmaking with a high tech smartwatch. The only thing I can think of would be something similar to the Casio Edifice watches, or something like Jaeger Lecoultre did a few years back with Aston Martin (with a radio transponder in the watch to open and start the DBS).

Finally! Opponauts into watches! A few friends of mine are on their way to Basel now. It's always amazing to see which #brand has the most ostentatious booth. I think UBoat had a 1:8 scale aircraft carrier to debut their new line of naval aviation watches a few years back.
As far as the new smartwatch market goes, the challenge for the hi-end watch maker (and in some respects the mid-tier as well) is to get that balance between hand-made and tech.
The most appealing to me is what Breitling has to offer.

I think that has cool functionality, but I honestly can't stand how it looks though.
